Our innate consciousness naturally returns to our True Nature in the deepest stages of Dreamless Sleep, allowing us to emerge fully vibrant from the Awareness that is experienced through deep inner Unfoldment, returning to our Pure Self, love. the Practice instructed below is Robert Adams Pure Form simple art of deep observation+
.When you get out of bed in the morning, you begin with the ‘I', and it never ends till you fall asleep. Therefore the only peace you ever get is when you are in deep 'sleep'. When you are in deep sleep, The ‘I' returns to the Heart, to the Source. There is 'nothing' gong on. 'Nothing' happening.
At the time you are unconsciously 'Self Realized'. (*"We are in our nature of Omniscient Love")
This is why when you get up in the morning and you say to yourself, “I” slept well, good ,” you are talking about the “I'. ‘I' slept well, good. What you really mean to say is, the “I” wasn't' interfering with your life. But as soon as you begin to think, you say, “I am late for work. I have to catch the bus. I have a headache. I have to eat breakfast.”
And you go on and on with this ‘ I', and it never stops. All day long it's 'I,I,I,I.' Think about this. Am I not telling you the truth? You are always thinking a bout, “I this” and “I that”. Until the night time comes again, you go to sleep. And again the ‘I' goes back into The Source, into The Heart, and you are at peace once more.
Until you wake up and it starts all over again. After doing this for a million years, you get to the stage when you will ask yourself, “Who am ‘I'? What is this ‘I'? How did it arise? From whence does it come?” And this is the Beginning of Wisdom , when you inquire for the Source of the I .You ultimately begin to trace the I to the Source. When you do this, finally, when the “I” is in the Source, it is just like when you are in deep sleep, except that you are conscious. Think about this for a moment.
In Deep Sleep you have no ‘I' for it has returned to The Source. (*The All Pervading Bliss that is God, The Power That Knows the Way')You are totally happy, but you are unconscious of it. When you attain what we call Self Realization, it means that the ‘I' has returned to the Source while you are awake.
The Practice and The Experience
There is 'no-body' left to think. There is no one left to worry, or to fret, or to be unhappy. You have merged with the Infinite, with the All Pervading. If you understand this, and you practice this, you will become the happiest person in the world.
For on the way to finding the I Source, you begin to feel happier and happier every day. The old thoughts melt away.
The old you dissolves . You become Free. (*"By 'freedom' of course I refer to freedom to enslavement to the cycles of human suffering. Identification with events as 'you'.)
Whatever you identify with, that is what you become. Therefore, stop identifying with worldly things. Identify with your Self. (*'The Divine within'). Now how do you do this? It begins in the morning, as I told you before. That is the time when your mind has been free. Because you slept, you have had a semblance of peace. Being in deep sleep is an unconscious method of Self Realization. You are Realized when you are asleep, but you are unconscious. So you are not aware of it. You want to be consciously asleep. When you are consciously asleep, you are ‘Awake'. You are awake to your Self, to Reality, to what Is, to I AM.
When you get up in the morning, immediately before the thoughts come, identify with the Self. Now how do you do this? Simply say to yourself, “I, I,”. That is all you have to do. You are doing this before your thoughts come.
Maybe in the beginning you can only do this for a couple of seconds, but that's good. Event those couple of seconds will make your day fulfilled, and you will feel happy during the day. As time passes, as I explained before, the space will widen and you will be able to remain longer periods in I, I, I, I ,. Now when thoughts come, simply ask yourself, “To whom do these thoughts come? They come tome.” And you hold on to the “me”. You do not let go. But do not concentrate on the me. Just hold on to the me. You concentrate on the Source of me. It is like you are holding onto a rope, and you are going to its source and you let go. Letting go is the Source. Total Awareness. Absolute Reality. 'I AM That IAM'. Do not try to analyze this. Just allow it to be.
II.
Now you know I have been talking about The Dreamless Sleep for many, many years now. When I first introduced this it was difficult for some to grasp. Yet we consistently come back to this.
Why? Because this is very important. The Dreamless Sleep is when you are in The Source. Then you ‘wake up' to this world, to this appearance, and you forget. You become Jane again, or Mark, or whoever you are during the day. You forget the peace you were in during The Dreamless Sleep, and once again you begin to identify with all of the things going on around you during the day. “I am having a bad day.” “I have a lot of bills to pay.” “He hurt my feelings.” “I am depressed”. Yet it was only a few hours ago that none of these things even existed. You were not worried. Because when you are in the deepest sleep, the deepest dreamless sleep, ‘you' are resting in The Source. And here there are no so called problems. There is supreme understanding of the Origin of all things. When you spend time in this Consciousness, you awaken deeply refreshed, happy, and the worries of the previous day seem far away. As if they never existed. For ‘you' are resting in who you really are. The Pure Self.
This is not because you are not thinking about your circumstances .. It is because you stopped thinking that they were‘ you ' and you rested in who you really are.
The whole point of this is to maintain that blissful. Loving , peaceful Awareness, for it is the Truth of who you are.
Therefore I say to you, do these practices I have given you that allow you to enter the Dreamless Sleep and maintain this Awareness for longer periods throughout the day. When you emerge, you will not say, “I do not have to deal with my problems' or “My problems are not ‘real' so I am running away from the repercussions of my actions”. You do not think that you can just do anything you want to do. Not at all. Nothing could be further from the truth. For in actuality, you emerge with the greatest of wisdom. You are deeply guided from within, from The Power That Knows the Way. From Supreme Wisdom. This wisdom is aware of what is happening to you in the earthly journey, and the beautiful reason behind it all. The compassion that you are acquiring. With compassion comes Freedom. Freedom from fear, from anger, from chaos. So if you enter the Dreamless Sleep more often, if you abide in these Practices, you will live in a happier set of circumstances, for you will be approaching life from Supreme Wisdom. This brings happiness to all concerned.
Always practice the form of Self Inquiry we have discussed before falling asleep. Yet instead of ending by asking
“Who is this “I ” ? From whence does it come?” say, “I AM THAT I AM”. Do this again and again until the peace comes. And this will assist you in falling into The Dreamless Sleep. Eventually you will do this naturally. You will abide in it throughout the day. How will you know that you are? “You” will be irrelevant, for your ego will dissolve. You will harmoniously feel that you are in the heart of all mankind. Therefore you will feel no attraction to harming others, creating karmas, doing anything that is not of the highest Truth and purity. In thought, word and deed. For you are abiding in The Source. And the Source is none else but love. The ‘normal' consciousness will become the Dreamless Sleep, the Omniscient Love that is indescribable.
